First of all, what even is maca? It’s a root native from Peru, traditionally used by natives for thousands of years, now evolving into a superfood in the modern market. It was considered by the Incas as a gift from the gods!!!
Aside from being used as a food source, they used it in religious ceremonies for rituals and dances. Its declared one of Perú´s flagship products and, believe it or not, is cousin to broccoli, kale and cabbage. It is also considered by some as an aphrodisiac. Due to its high energy properties, its specially recommended for athletes, students, active people… or for your partner 😉.
Origin
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) grows in the highlands of the Peruvian Andes, in altitudes reaching 4500 meters above sea level. There is evidence of Maca plantations dating back 2000 years. According to Spanish chronicles during La Conquista, their animals would not reproduce normally at high altitudes, so natives told the Spanish that they should feed them maca. Their animals went crazy! They returned to the normal levels of reproduction, and they kept using it.

It also can increase fertility especially in men since it’s a source of zinc; studies have shown that it can increase concentration and improve quality of sperm.
Does maca give you energy?
As many “superfoods”, yes it can give you more energy due to its high concentration of vitamins and nutrients. Its commonly used by athletes as supplement for energy and enhancing performance. Also, because its high in iron, it helps reduce tiredness and fatigue. Maca powder is so easy to use, you can even do a maca coffee with a little bit of cinnamon and you’ll be set for the day.
Reduce symptoms of menopause
Menopause is not fun. Because of the dropping in estrogen levels, women suffer from symptoms like hot flashes, irritability and mood swings. Studies have shown that consuming maca has helped reduce the symptoms. Additionally, maca can be beneficial for bone health; women are at higher risk of osteoporosis after going through menopause.
Mood booster
Are you feeling blue? Maca can help you lift your mood and reduce anxiety. Some studies show that it can help with depression in post-menopausal women. You’ll feel energized and ready to take over the world! You’ll be more productive, have more time, which will result in less stress and that’ll bring you fulfillment and ultimately joy.
Memory: Some studies show that it can improve your memory and learning, so it’s been suggested as a possible treatment for diseases like Alzheimer’s. However, more testing needs to be done.
